Cleaning the Filter of a Washing Machine
Understanding the Issue
If your washing machine isn’t draining properly, smells musty, or leaves clothes wetter than usual, it may have a blocked or dirty filter. Filters catch small items (like coins or hair grips) and help keep the pump clear.
What You Can Do
Cleaning the filter regularly can prevent drainage issues and prolong your appliance’s life.
Steps (Typical Front-Loader):
- Locate the filter (usually at the bottom corner of the machine)
- Place a shallow tray or towel underneath
- Unscrew the filter slowly and let water drain out
- Remove debris, rinse, and screw the filter back in
Safety Reminder
Always unplug the machine before accessing the filter. Clean it regularly—every 1–2 months if in frequent use.
