Changing Light Bulbs Safely
Understanding the Issue
Lightbulbs do occasionally blow out — especially halogen and incandescent types. While it’s usually safe to change them yourself, it's important to follow safe handling procedures.
What You Can Do
Replacing a standard lightbulb is a quick fix you can do yourself.
Steps:
- Switch off the light at the wall
- Let the bulb cool completely if recently used
- Remove the old bulb (twist or push-and-turn depending on type)
- Insert the new bulb gently but securely
- Turn power back on and test
Tips
Check bulb type and wattage before buying a replacement (Bayonet, Edison screw, etc.). LED bulbs are energy-efficient and long-lasting.
Safety Reminder
Never change a bulb with wet hands or while standing on an unstable surface. Avoid touching halogen bulbs directly with bare fingers.
When to Report It
- Bulb keeps blowing quickly after replacement
- The fitting is damaged or burnt
- You cannot safely reach the light
