Changing Light Bulbs Safely

Understanding the Issue

Lightbulbs do occasionally blow out — especially halogen and incandescent types. While it’s usually safe to change them yourself, it's important to follow safe handling procedures.

What You Can Do

Replacing a standard lightbulb is a quick fix you can do yourself.

Steps:

  1. Switch off the light at the wall
  2. Let the bulb cool completely if recently used
  3. Remove the old bulb (twist or push-and-turn depending on type)
  4. Insert the new bulb gently but securely
  5. Turn power back on and test

Tips

Check bulb type and wattage before buying a replacement (Bayonet, Edison screw, etc.). LED bulbs are energy-efficient and long-lasting.

Safety Reminder

Never change a bulb with wet hands or while standing on an unstable surface. Avoid touching halogen bulbs directly with bare fingers.

When to Report It

  • Bulb keeps blowing quickly after replacement
  • The fitting is damaged or burnt
  • You cannot safely reach the light
